Chapter 5

Dylan

The car was nothing. Pocket change to a guy with my resources, but when Sarah gasped her surprise, tried to refuse it—it cracked something open inside of me, some soul-deep wanting that I didn’t even know I had until it bubbled up to the surface. And then I couldn’t think beyond my blinding desire for her, how badly I wanted to drag her to my bed and fuck her until she understood that she was mine forever.

But there’s more to do today, and as much as I want to disappear with her into my apartment and chain her to my bed for a week, I can’t. So I pull myself back from the edge, letting my kisses turn soft and languid and sliding my hand down from her lush tit to the curve of her waist. And finally, after one last sip from her sensual mouth, we part shakily. She raises trembling fingers to her kiss-swollen mouth.

“That was—” she starts.

“Really something,” I finish, and she chuckles weakly.

“Yeah, it really was,” she agrees. She smoothes her palms down the front of her simple sundress, and for what feels like the millionth time in the last two hours, I admire how beautiful she looks. I’ve only seen her at the coffee shop, with her hair pulled back and in serviceable jeans and t-shirts. But with her dark hair flowing over her shoulders like a sable river and the drape of the soft dress over her generous curves, she’s utterly luminous, her pale skin like starlight. And I want to kiss and explore every inch of it, but that will have to wait.

I reach out and finger a silky strand of hair. “My grandfather wants to meet you,” I say. “Today.”

Her eyes widen. “That soon?”

I chuckle and open the driver’s side door of the car. “Of course he does,” I say as she slides past me, her body brushing against mine as she lowers herself into the deep leather seat. She fumbles around at the switches to adjust the seat, and I bend down to help her with the unfamiliar controls until we adjust the seat into a comfortable position for her.

“There’s already a tag to get you into the garage under our building,” I say as I brush a reassuring hand over her shoulder. “Go home. Relax for a little while. I’ll be home to get ready in a couple of hours and then I’ll drive us over to his house.”

She just nods, still saucer-eyed with anxiety, and I bend down again to press my lips to hers.

“I’ll see you later,” I say. I’m still bent over her car door, unwilling to let her go. “I’ll miss you.”

She hesitates. “I—I’ll miss you too,” she finally says.

I raise a hand in farewell as she drives away, until she turns out of sight. And I know that I’ll count the minutes until I see her again.
